McKay Royal Scots Softball 0-18 South Salem

South Salem defeated McKay 18-0 in a softball mercy rule game on May 21 at South Salem High School in Salem, Oregon. The non-league matchup highlighted the challenges facing McKay's Mid-Willamette Conference (5A) squad late in the 2026 spring season.
The Saxons controlled the game from the opening inning, building an insurmountable lead that triggered the mercy rule. McKay struggled to generate offensive momentum against South Salem's pitching staff while defensive miscues compounded the deficit.
The loss dropped McKay to 5-18 overall and 3-7 in Mid-Willamette Conference play as the regular season winds down. Despite the difficult result, the Royal Scots have shown improvement in conference competition compared to their overall record.
McKay's underclassmen gained valuable experience in the lopsided affair, which should benefit the program's development moving forward. The Royal Scots will look to regroup and finish the season on a positive note in their remaining games as they continue building toward next year's campaign.
